We want to live in healthy communities!

We at the Smile Mission believe that every person in Canada should have access to basic dental care, and we want to make that ideal a reality.

Because dental professionals must charge everyone the same prices whether they are insured or not, people with financial barriers typically lack access to dental care in Canada. All low-income dental hygiene clinics in BC suffer from chronic under-funding, difficulty acquiring volunteer dental providers, and staff burn-out. This leads to irregular clinic hours and treatment limited to people who have no money and are in pain. We cannot create health when we only focus on emergency treatment, and being a patient in this condition is humiliating. The Smile Mission is doing things differently.

Smile Mission income improves access to dental maintenance care, with dignity, at participating dental (hygiene) clinics.

Yes we can!

All people are treated according to the oral health condition they present with, and with the same care, whether at the moment you are a millionaire or a pauper.

We fundraise by offering dental hygiene clinics at local community centres in remote locations. Our on-site fees are never above the current BC Dental Hygiene Fee Guide.

Our mobile clinics carry the tools and equipment you expect from a fixed clinic: Sterile instruments and modern equipment, air / water / suction, ultrasonic scaling, x-ray, Interim Stabilization Therapy temporary restorations and xylitol-containing products for your health and enjoyment.

Scotch Creek clinic

On-site dental hygiene clinics: Scotch Creek, Seymour Arm

Every second Saturday of the month we come to the North Shuswap Health Centre: call 250 955 0660 to book dental hygiene appointments there.

Twice a year we come to the Seymour Arm Community Hall: Call 250 832 6692 to book dental hygiene appointments there.

Dental hygiene clinics are offered in a medical office with dental-specific with portable equipment.

Income earned from these clinics supports a number of local oral health activities.

Sponsorship into year-long contract to assist individuals with attaining oral health.

* Children's Oral Health Drive:

No cost dental hygiene in winter break for children in families receiving certificate in Salvation Army Christmas hampers.

* Shuswap Welcome Smiles:

Sponsored dental hygiene services for new neighbors who were refugees, and their children.

* Senior Smile Program:

Monthly dental hygiene service for senior referred through Salvation Army or Churches' Thrift Store.

* Unresolved Ministry Account:

Sponsorship of participating dental clinics towards what the Ministry does not pay for children under the Healthy Kids program or adults with disabilities.
